STATUESQUE: A raucous, 7 performance drag celebration of #BIPOC #LGBTQ heroes, Marsha P. Johnson, Sylvia Rivera, and Stormé DeLarverie, at #thestonewallinn, the place where it all began on Wed, September 20, 7-9pm.

The event, which is sponsored by #TheNewSchool and is part of @thevillagetripfestival, will draw attention to the epidemic of violence against #trans #women of color that remains more than 50 years later. Legendary Queen, Harmonica Sunbeam, will host and headline a BIPOC drag lineup to help raise funds for a statue of #MarshaPJohnson in her hometown of Elizabeth, #NJ, the FIRST-EVER recognizing a trans person in the State. There will also be a special vogue performance honoring #OSheaSibley by Blair.

Other performers will include: ballroom icon, Egyptt LaBeija, Misty Mountains Davenport -Miss Stonewall 2023, Harriet Tugsmen -MX Rockbar 2023, Uncle Freak, and pianist, Lyra Vega. Music by DJ Chauncey D. Special appearances by New York State Assembly Member Harvey Epstein and Iman Le Caire, founder of Trans Asylias.

The Village has long been a Mecca for immigrants seeking refuge from the conflicts of war and natural disaster. Poet Mascha Kaléko is your guide to a world of song and chamber music that explores these themes.

In 2020 guitarist William Anderson began a commissioning and development project based on Kaléko’s journey and her poetry. His plan is to work with young composers and established masters in each of Kaléko’s stopping places. The result is a uniquely varied collection of songs, spanning a broad spectrum of references, styles and responses.
