“Who Are We?” Songwriting Workshops for Kids

Two very special songwriting and performance workshops with award-winning singer-songwriters and storytellers! The events are specially created for children aged 6 - 12 years old, all of whom will be encouraged to dig deep into their hearts to explore, wonder, and write about "Who Are We?". Through the process of questioning, answering and conversation, a song will emerge using the children’s own words and voices. We will learn what the younger generation thinks about themselves and their place in the world – and maybe what they think about us adults!
The two workshops cover the same ground and following a short break, each of the groups will have a new song to perform for family and friends at a unique after-class concert in The Salon at Anew.
A maximum of 12 kids per workshop will ensure genuine engagement, and will be led by a celebrated writer and musician:
David Massingell, a prolific author-illustrator of pocket-sized children's books, whose songs have been recorded by Joan Baez, among others.
Liz Queler, three-time Grammy Award nominee for her contributions to children's music with Brady Rymer and The Little Band That Could.
Who knows? Maybe a future songwriter will emerge from this very special creative experience! A very special event for everyone involved.
Adults will not attend the workshops themselves but may pass the time in Anew’s relaxing café, which will be open throughout. For reasons of space, a maximum of two adults per child may attend the concert.
Space is limited to 12 per workshop. We will start a wait list if necessary.
