Tenor Maximillian Jansen is a versatile performer who excels on both the operatic and concert stage. No stranger to the world of musical theatre, he is also a recitalist, committed to using music as a tool for change through diverse, intentional programming and the exploration of contemporary and underrepresented voices. Maximillian was the winner of the Robert E Ludwig Award for First Place in the Oratorio Society of New York’s 2025 Lyndon Woodside Oratorio-Solo Competition. He also won first prize at the 2025 Rochester International Vocal Competition.

In the 2025 season, Maximillian made his Lincoln Center debut in a staged production of Honegger’s King David with the New York Choral Society at Alice Tully Hall. He also sang the roles of the Border Guards and Counselor Two in the Metropolitan Opera’s workshop of Mothers of Kherson which will premiere at Polish National Opera in Warsaw in October 2026 before coming to the Met in the 2027-28 season. Maximillian has appeared as a soloist with groups including Taghkonic Chorale, Concerts in the Village, Lancaster Symphony, Albany Symphony, Cincinnati Fusion Ensemble, and the Bard Baroque Ensemble performing works of Britten, Beethoven, Handel, Haydn, Telemann, and Bach.
Originally from Cincinnati, Maximillian is now based in New York. He holds a master’s degree in music from Bard College Conservatory of Music, where he studied with Lorraine Nubar, Stephanie Blythe, Kayo Iwama, and Erika Switzer. Maximillian is also an alumnus of Miami University of Ohio, where he studied under the tutelage of Audrey B. Luna.
