The Peoples’ Voice Café: Songs of Freedom and Resistance
September 26 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm EDT
Free – $20
The classic hootenanny, a multi-performer folk concert, returns to the heart of Greenwich Village as the Peoples’ Voice Cafe presents Songs of Freedom and Resistance, an all-acoustic showcase featuring four longtime activist musicians: Judy Gorman, David Tarlo, Lindsey Wilson, and Adele Rolider. Each will do a 30-minute set. Come prepared to join in on the choruses as these four artists sing out for peace, human rights, and social justice.
The Peoples' Voice Cafe has its roots in a time-honored tradition combining the arts and social action. It was founded in 1979 by members of Songs of Freedom and Struggle (now a national organization known as the People's Music Network for Songs of Freedom and Struggle). Both PMN and the Cafe are dedicated to creating, supporting, promoting and performing progressive music and culture. The Cafe is a not-for-profit collective that is not affiliated with any political or religious organization.
The Peoples’ Voice Cafe meets in the Judson Memorial Church Assembly Hall, just south of Washington Square Park. Admission is by contribution ($20 recommended), but no one turned away for lack of money. Home-baked goodies available along with coffee and tea. The doors open at 7:15pm.
More if you choose, less if you can't. No one turned away for lack of money.
