Queer Urban Orchestra (QUO) is the Northeast’s only orchestra rooted in the LGBTQ+ community. From its membership to its featured composers and performers, QUO celebrates queer artistry while promoting equity and empathy. Founded in 2009 as New York City’s first orchestra specifically serving the LGBTQ+ community, QUO has grown to a membership of over 100 avocational musicians—ranging from educators and healthcare professionals to artists and engineers—who come together to celebrate both musical excellence and LGBTQ+ identity. Its members bring a wide range of backgrounds and experiences, united by a shared passion for community, creativity, and the transformative power of music.

The orchestra has premiered numerous works and collaborated with artists including Anthony Roth Costanzo, Ariadne Greif, Ryan Roberts, Andrew Yee, Jasmine Rice LaBeija, Todd Almond, Empire City Men’s Chorus, Youth Pride Chorus, and Stonewall Chorale. Since 2023, QUO has been led by Artistic Director David Bloom and Associate Conductor Derek Weagle.
