From abstract expressionism and beatnik poetry readings in the 1950s to Andy Warhol, psychedelic posters, the Fillmore East and crash pads in the 1960s; from the punk scene of the 1970s and Club 57, to Wigstock and galleries in the 1980s showing Jeff Koons, Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat, the East Village has been a vortex of creative energy. This comprehensive walking tour explores the crucible for avant-garde arts and social change that the East Village has been for the last eighty years.

East Village artist Marc Kehoe leads you down the Bowery, across St Marks Place and through the edgy East Village to see the sites of galleries, the residences and studios of artists, poets, musicians, and photographers and the avant-garde clubs and bars where American culture was forever changed.

At the conclusion of the tour, clients will have the opportunity to get coffee or snack at a nearby café and continue the discussion with Kehoe.
