Come celebrate the historic role and impact the Beats and bebop and jazz artists played in the rise of the contemporary East Village arts scene.<\/p>\n

The evening will open with a screening of Pull My Daisy<\/em>, the extraordinary 1959 film featuring local Beat icons including Allen Ginsberg, Gregory Corso, Alice Neel and others, based on a story-poem by Jack Kerouac, who narrates over David Amram\u2019s score. This will be followed by a short film tribute to jazz great Charlie Parker. the inspiration for the annual music festival in Tompkins Square, who lived on Avenue B. Following the screenings, the David Amram Trio will perform \u2013 there will be an unmissable finale tribute to Charlie Parker with guest musicians from the community.<\/p>\n

In the course of his musical career, Amram \u2013 Artist Emeritus of The Village Trip \u2013 has worked and played with all the greats, including many of the best-known Latin, jazz and world music artists. He has composed countless film scores and orchestral pieces, and has supported emerging artists, dreamers and social justice causes. \u201cNow\u2019s the Time\u201d to celebrate our East Village history and Beat heritage, and to thank David for his ongoing enthusiastic support and contributions to our future.<\/p>\n

\"La<\/a>There is no charge, but the \u201chat will be passed\u201d to support and thank the Nuyorican Poets Caf\u00e9 for providing this venue. As this date, September 20, is the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Maria which devastated Puerto Rico, information will be available on ways to support ongoing restoration projects on our sister island.<\/em><\/p>\n
