SUMMARY:Painting the Village: The Village Trip Art Walk – A Tour with Artist and Historian Marc Kehoe
DESCRIPTION:[image: Six O’Clock\, Winter by John French Sloan\, 1912] \nGreenwich Village has spawned more influential artists and art movements than any other place in America. Clients can then get coffee or a snack at a charming nearby cafe and continue the discussion with him \n\nMarc Kehoe\n\nMeet under the Arch\, Washington Square Park\, New York\, NY 10012\n\n\n\n \n \n \n BUY TICKETS ON HUMANITIX

SUMMARY:Bringing It All Back Home to Washington Square. Free concert with the Peace Poets\, People of Earth\, & BETTY
DESCRIPTION:Due to the high chance of heavy thunderstorms\, this concert in Washington Square Park has been cancelled.\nGeographically and spiritually\, Washington Square has always been the center of the Village. Bohemia’s beating heart. A place to gather\, whether to protest or just hang out\, often with a guitar – and to dance! The signature event of each year’s Village Trip festival\, this concert in the Park brings together a stellar selection of New York City talent: People of Earth\, The Peace Poets and BETTY\, the award-winning indie rock trio which (as Gloria Steinem puts it) “spreads the most lasting kind of revolution”. \nA program that’s as diverse as the Village itself—three energizing and inspirational bands to get you dancing – and thinking! Explosive Latin and tropical rhythms from People of Earth\, a powerhouse global collective. Hip-hop\, heart and hope from The Peace Poets\, a collective of poets\, artists\, performers\, and educators. And rock from BETTY\, a trio of women known worldwide for their soaring harmonies\, upbeat live shows\, and non-stop activism. \nDeclares BETTY: “Since our first gig together in 1986\, BETTY has been an indie activist artist band. We create and perform passionate music that exemplifies the 1960s slogan popularized in Greenwich Village and beyond—‘the personal is political.’ Washington Square Park continues to be the heart of NYC’s progressive movements and an epicenter for change. There is an electricity that runs from this power point that can and has ignited the world. We’re thrilled to plug in\, tune up and rock out there with the legendary gathering\, The Village Trip!” \nThis must-see concert on the concluding weekend of the fifth Village Trip perfectly sums up the festival’s mission: To celebrate arts and activism across the Village. Come on down and join the party. Tell your friends. Bring the family. This is an event you don’t want to miss. New York’s coolest event in the city’s coolest space! Be there! \n4-7pm \n\nBETTY\nThe Peace Poets\nPeople of Earth\n\nNo tickets needed – just grab your dancing shoes and shimmy on down to Garibaldi Plaza in Washington Square Park for an afternoon of great music and good fun!\nThis event is free to attend\, but we suggest a $10 donation to The Village Trip\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n DONATE to THE VILLAGE TRIP

SUMMARY:The 2nd Birthplace: Hip-Hop at 50 Walking Tour
DESCRIPTION:Did you know that the first place in New York City where all four Hip Hop elements were presented together for the first time and outside of the Bronx was at a club/concert hall in the East Village? Did you know that rappers like Mos Def and Biggies got their start at an open mic show in the West Village? Join Tara Crichlow\, aka “Big Tara\,” a native of the Lower East Side\, and a cultural ambassador. \nThe 2nd Birthplace Tour (Hip-Hop at 50 Tour) is a two-hour walking tour (10 stops) that honors the artists and entrepreneurs; explores spaces and sites in the Village that were pivotal in introducing Hip-Hop cultural elements (B-Boying\, DJ-ing\, Graffiti\, Fashion and Emceeing) to the world. During a pivotal 20-year period in Hip-Hop history (1979-1999) nightlife venues\, art galleries\, walls and parks throughout the Village functioned as a secondary incubator and stage for B-Boys\, Graffiti artists\, Emcees\, DJs and designers creating what we now call Hip-Hop Culture. It’s part of a year-long celebration of the 50th anniversary of the birth of hip-hop\, which began in The Bronx\, but which grew and developed substantially in our neighborhoods. \n\nTara Crichlow\n\nIn association with Village Preservation. \nFree:  Spaces are limited. Pre-registration is required.\nMeeting Place: Northwest Side of Washington Square Arch\, Washington Square N\, New York\, NY 10012. \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n BOOK TICKETS for AFTERNOON Tour: 3:00-5:00pm \n \n	\n\n\n \n \n \n BOOK TICKETS for EVENING Tour: 6:00-8:00pm
