SUMMARY:The Art & Science of Hang-out-ology: David Amram in Conversation with Cliff Pearson
DESCRIPTION:David Amram\, “Renaissance Man of American Music” and real-life Zelig\, is now in his sixth year as Artist Emeritus of The Village Trip\, having enthusiastically agreed to perform at the inaugural festival in 2018 when it was little more than a few paragraphs of ideas. He is the spirit of the festival\, and a link to more than a half-century of fabled Village history. Indeed\, David has lived much of it—hanging out with the Abstract Expressionists who changed the course of art\, jamming with Parker\, Monk and Mingus who changed the course of jazz\, and composing for the great Joe Papp\, who changed the course of theater.\nHe was Composer and Music Director for the Lincoln Center Theater\, working with Arthur Miller\, and was appointed by Leonard Bernstein to be the New York Philharmonic’s first Composer in Residence. With his buddy Jack Kerouac\, he brought jazz and poetry to New York\, and he’s played at every Farm Aid with his pal Willie Nelson. At 93\, he’s still playing gigs in the US and abroad\, as well as composing and conducting. \n\nDavid Amram\nCliff Pearson\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n BUY TICKETS FROM HUMANITIX

SUMMARY:Richard Barone on the 1960s Greenwich Village Music Scene
DESCRIPTION:The musician and author talks to Liz Thomson about his latest book\nRichard Barone talks to fellow author and Village Trip founder Liz Thomson about his new book\, Music + Revolution: Greenwich Village in the 1960s\, a freewheeling historical narrative\, peppered with personal stories and insights from those who were there. \nAnd what better place to do it than at the historic Washington Square Hotel\, the heart and soul of Greenwich Village hospitality for 120 years. Its guest register has included such musical luminaries as Bob Dylan and Joan Baez\, Roger McGuinn and John Phillips who\, one winters day in 1965\, wrote “California Dreamin’” while staying at what was then the Hotel Earle. \nEven before the Beatnik Riots of 1961\, New York City’s Greenwich Village had been the epicenter of revolutionary developments in American music and culture. But the 1960s were a time of particular turbulence and creative ferment\, as a new wave of writers and performers\, inspired by the folk music revival of the 1950s\, created socially aware and deeply personal songs that spoke to a generation like never before. Message and music became one and mirrored society. \nGreenwich Village is not only the stomping ground of songwriter Richard Barone but also his creative muse. His account Music + Revolution on the Village folk scene in the 1960s is a lovely companion to his album Sorrows and Promises\, providing us sketches of memorable characters and giving us insight into the sights and sounds of the famed Manhattan neighborhood” — Stephen Petrus\, co-author of Folk City:  New York and the American Folk Music Revival \n\nRichard Barone\nLiz Thomson\n\nTickets: $25 including glass of wine\, beer or soft drink \nLobby Bar\nWashington Square Hotel\n103 Waverly Place\nNew York\, NY 1001 \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n BOOK TICKETS ON EVENTBRITE
