SUMMARY:The Cornelia Street Café in Exile: A Documentary (2025)
DESCRIPTION:[image credit: Edward Ching] \nFor 41 years\, the Cornelia Street Café was a Village fixture\, a great place to go\, whether to relax with friends and a bottle of wine\, or to write at a corner table\, fueled by excellent coffee. Downstairs\, on its diminutive stage\, Suzanne Vega might be trying out a new song\, Oliver Sacks presenting a science evening\, Eve Ensler directing an early performance of The Vagina Monologues. David Amram played regular gigs in what he called “the Cornelia Street Stadium.”\nForced to close by a huge rent increase\, owner Robin Hirsch found himself unmoored. Michael Jacobsohn’s full-length documentary captures the centrality of the Café to New York City’s artistic community. Its demise is a reminder to Hirsch\, the son of a Holocaust survivor\, of the painful loss his parents endured. \nBoth Hirsch and Jacobsohn will be present at the screening\, which will be followed by a Q&A. \nFeaturing David Amram\, Arturo O’Farrill\, David Massengill\, Suzanne Vega\, Hannah Reimann\, Michael Lydon\, Cliff Eberhardt\, Daniel Levy\, Daniel Cainer\, Frank Messina\, and others. Directed and produced by Michael Jacobsohn. \n\n\n\n \n \n \n BUY TICKETS FROM THE IFC CENTER \n \n	\n\n\n \n\n \n  \n \n  \n
