SUMMARY:Miles and Trane at 100: A Celebration with David Amram and Friends
DESCRIPTION:[image: David Amram  |  John Contrane in 1963   |  Miles Davis (by Palumbo) ] \nJoin legendary multi-instrumentalist and “Renaissance man of American music” David Amram and his septet for a musical journey celebrating the legacies of Miles Davis and John Coltrane in their centennial year. This performance is more than a tribute: It is a first-hand account of jazz history from an artist who lived it. In the 1950s\, Amram worked with the great bands of Charles Mingus\, Oscar Pettiford\, Dizzy Gillespie\, Lionel Hampton and his own quartet. He was well acquainted with both Miles and Trane\, two giants from the vibrant New York scene of the 1950s\, and he brings a unique perspective to their transformative works.\nFrom the smoky corners of the Village – historic sets at the Five Spot\, the Village Vanguard\, and other legendary clubs – David Amram\, Village Trip Artist Emeritus\, was there for the birth of those “sheets of sound” and Miles’ pioneering modal jazz that redefined the genre. At the new Five Spot\, you will hear classics from Miles and Trane\, as well as songs from George Gershwin\, Duke Ellington and Cole Porter; symphonic excerpts; Latin and jazz classics from the past half-century; and all the world music influences for which Amram is renowned. As always\, David’s performance will embrace music as a shared spiritual experience. Between numbers\, he will offer personal anecdotes – from walking the late-night streets of Manhattan with Miles to seeing Thelonious Monk dance to Coltrane’s solos at the original Five Spot when he last played 59 years ago. \nDon’t miss this rare opportunity to hear the music of Miles and Trane\, through the lens of a living legend who continues to prove that great music knows no boundaries. \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n BUY TICKETS ON HUMANITIX ??????????? or FIVE SPOT
